- 1 cup chopped pecans or almonds
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup butter
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Chocolate chips for topping
Instructions
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine butter, sugar, water, and salt over medium heat. Stir until boiling.
- Attach a candy thermometer and continue cooking until the mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
- Remove from heat and quickly stir in vanilla and half of the chopped nuts.
- Pour the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and spread evenly with a spatula. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top immediately.
- Once chocolate melts slightly, spread it over the toffee and add remaining nuts and optional sea salt.
- Let cool completely before breaking into pieces.
