- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 tbsp corn syrup
- 5 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups whole milk
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
- 1 loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch slices
Instructions
- Prepare the caramel base by melting unsalted butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup in a small saucepan over medium heat for about 3-4 minutes until smooth. Pour evenly into a greased baking dish.
- Arrange the sliced French bread in a single layer over the caramel base.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs, whole milk, vanilla extract, salt, and optional cinnamon. Pour evenly over the bread and gently press to soak.
- Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight or for at least 4 hours.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Let sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes before baking uncovered for 35-40 minutes until golden brown.
