Ingredients
- 4 cups water
- 2 tbsp Kashmiri green tea (or other green tea)
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1–2 star anise
- 2 crushed cardamom pods
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 cups whole milk
- Sugar or honey to taste
- Crushed nuts (e.g., almonds) for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Boil water in a saucepan and add green tea; let it boil for 5 minutes.
- Stir in baking soda and watch the color change; boil for another 2 minutes.
- Add star anise, crushed cardamom, and cinnamon; boil for an additional minute.
- Reduce heat and simmer the mixture for 20-30 minutes until reduced by half.
- Stir in salt and then add whole milk; bring to a gentle boil while stirring constantly.
- Remove from heat once the pink color appears; strain into cups to remove spices.
- Sweeten to taste with sugar or honey and garnish with crushed nuts if desired.
