Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef, chicken, or turkey
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme (or ½ teaspoon dried)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 package of puff pastry (2 sheets, thawed)
- ½ cup grated Gruyère cheese (optional)
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook slowly until golden brown (about 15–20 minutes) and set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground meat with the caramelized onions, thyme, salt, pepper, cheese, and mustard if desired.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out puff pastry on a floured surface; cut into rectangles (approximately 4×6 inches). Place filling on each rectangle, fold over the pastry edges, seal with a fork, and brush tops with beaten egg.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown; allow to cool slightly before serving.
