- ½ cup unsalted butter
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup (optional)
- 1½ cups chopped pecans
- 1½ cups all-purpose flour

- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup milk or buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup melted unsalted butter
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9-inch cake pan with parchment paper.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter and brown sugar until smooth. Stir in maple syrup if desired. Pour into the prepared pan and sprinkle with chopped pecans.
- In one mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, beat eggs and granulated sugar until light, then mix in milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients until just combined.
- Pour batter over the pecan layer in the cake pan and bake for about 35–40 minutes until golden brown and set in the center.
- Cool for 10–15 minutes before flipping onto a serving plate.
